Adobe Captivate pricing plans, and what authors pay elsewhere
Captivate figures are from Adobe's US store, the Captivate FAQ and the buying guide. Articulate and iSpring are from their own pricing pages. CompanyLMS is our own published rate.

Pricing reflects each vendor's own pricing or help pages where they exist, and labelled third-party data where they do not. Most vendors quote privately, so treat ranges as planning anchors and confirm with each vendor.
Buying guide
Adobe Captivate pricing, explained
What a Captivate license costs, what leaving early costs, what teams pay, and when an LMS with authoring built in is the cheaper purchase.
How much does Adobe Captivate cost?

Adobe Captivate costs US$39.99 a month for an individual license, on an annual commitment billed monthly. That is $479.88 a year per author, before sales tax. Those are the figures Adobe's own US store returns for the Captivate individual offer, and the same $39.99 appears in the pricing answer of Adobe's Captivate FAQ.
The license covers one named person. It includes the new Adobe Captivate, Adobe Captivate Classic, 100GB of cloud storage and 25 monthly generative credits on the individual plan. Team and enterprise licenses add 700 monthly premium credits and unlimited credits for Generate Image and Generate Text, but Adobe publishes no per-seat price for them; the buying guide sends both to a sales contact.
Some directories still list Captivate at $33.99 a month. The offer record Adobe serves today has carried $39.99 since May 28, 2024, so treat any lower figure as an old snapshot rather than a discount you can still get.
Adobe Captivate cost per year, and what cancelling early costs
A year of Captivate is $479.88, and it is a year, not a month-to-month plan. Adobe describes it as an annual subscription plan with a monthly payout: your card is charged $39.99 each month, but you have committed to twelve.
The cancellation terms in Adobe's FAQ decide what that commitment is worth. Cancel within the first 14 days and you get a full refund. After that, Adobe bills 50 percent of the remaining contract obligation. Cancel after four months and eight payments remain, which is $319.92, so the exit fee is $159.96.
| When you cancel | Payments left | What Adobe bills |
|---|---|---|
| Within 14 days | None | Full refund |
| After 4 months | 8 x $39.99 = $319.92 | $159.96 (50 percent) |
| After 9 months | 3 x $39.99 = $119.97 | $59.99 (50 percent) |
Budget it as a $480 annual line per author. If a contractor only needs Captivate for one project, the 14-day window is the only point where leaving is free.
Adobe Captivate team and enterprise pricing
Adobe does not publish a team or enterprise price for Captivate. The buying guide lists three programs for organizations and every one ends in a contact button:
- Value Incentive Plan (VIP) for teams and enterprises: named-user licenses managed in the Adobe Admin Console, with discount levels that increase as you buy more.
- Enterprise Term License Agreement (ETLA): a three-year agreement with one annual payment on the same date each year, aimed at large centralized deployments.
- Education: discounted licenses for eligible schools, students and instructors.
What you do get in writing is the difference in AI allowance. The individual plan carries 25 monthly generative credits; team and enterprise licenses carry 700 monthly premium credits plus unlimited Generate Image and Generate Text. If your designers plan to use AI avatars, that allowance matters more than the seat discount, because Adobe sells extra premium credits separately through Firefly.
Before you sign a VIP or ETLA quote, get three numbers on paper: the per-seat annual price, the term and anniversary date, and the monthly credit allowance per seat.
Is Adobe Captivate a one-time purchase?
No. Adobe has discontinued perpetual Captivate licenses, and the product is sold only as a subscription. Adobe's FAQ says that anyone holding a perpetual license of an older version must buy a new subscription to get the current release.
Two practical details come with that. Captivate is desktop software for Windows and macOS, and it must connect to the internet at least once within 30 days of first launch to activate, then again for periodic license checks. One license can be installed and activated on a maximum of two computers.
The subscription also includes Adobe Captivate Classic at no extra cost, which matters if you maintain older courses: Adobe states that Classic projects are incompatible with the new Captivate because the two versions use different technology stacks and file types.
Does Adobe Captivate include an LMS?

No. Captivate builds courses; it does not host them, assign them or track who finished. Adobe's FAQ says Captivate publishes HTML5 packages for SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, AICC and xAPI, so you deliver them from an LMS you buy separately.
Adobe's own answer is one-click publishing to Adobe Learning Manager, which is a separate product with its own license. Its billing documentation uses a worked example of $4 per user per month, billed for twelve months, and its pricing page sells two packages by quote. We break that down in Adobe Learning Manager pricing.
That is the part most Captivate budgets miss. The $480 seat is the author's cost. The cost of actually training people, with assignments, due dates, reminders, certificates and an audit report, sits in the LMS line.
What Adobe Captivate costs for a real US team
The figures below are our arithmetic on published rates, not quotes. Captivate is priced at $479.88 per author a year. The LMS is Adobe Learning Manager at Adobe's own worked example of $4 per user a month. Articulate 360 AI Teams includes its Reach LMS for 300 active learners a year, counted once per learner in each 30-day period, with Reach 360 Pro from $3,600 for 1,200. CompanyLMS bills per active learner in the month they train, with no author seat.
| Scenario | Captivate plus Adobe Learning Manager | Articulate 360 AI Teams | CompanyLMS |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 author, 50 staff training every month | $2,879.88 ($479.88 plus $2,400) | $5,349 ($1,749 plus Reach 360 Pro) | $1,800 on Team or $3,600 on Business, billed annually |
| 1 author, 200 staff taking one annual compliance course | $10,079.88 ($479.88 plus $9,600 for 200 users all year) | $1,749 (200 learner credits fit the 300 in Reach) | About $1,400 on Business at $7 in the one month they train |
| 2 authors, 100 staff training every month | $5,759.76 ($959.76 plus $4,800) | $7,098 ($3,498 plus Reach 360 Pro for 1,200) | $3,600 on Team or $7,200 on Business, billed annually |
The honest reading: Captivate is the cheapest serious authoring seat of the three at $480 a year, but it is only the cheapest total when you already own an LMS. If you do, Captivate plus your existing LMS is hard to beat for software simulations. If you are buying the LMS too, the per-user LMS bill is the number that decides it, and for training that happens once a year a per-active-learner price usually wins because idle months cost nothing.
CompanyLMS Business also includes role-based onboarding paths, certificate expiry with reminders and a skills matrix, which neither authoring tool provides on its own.
Adobe Captivate vs Articulate 360 vs iSpring Suite pricing
Per author, Captivate is the cheapest of the three big desktop authoring tools. The annual seat prices, each read from the vendor's own pricing:
| Authoring tool | Price per author | Billing | LMS included |
|---|---|---|---|
| Adobe Captivate | $479.88 a year ($39.99 a month) | Annual commitment, billed monthly | No; Adobe Learning Manager is separate |
| Articulate 360 AI Teams | $1,749 a year | Annual, paid up front | Reach, 300 active learners a year |
| iSpring Suite | 970 EUR a year, about $1,119 at August 2026 exchange rates | Annual, priced in euros | No; iSpring LMS is separate |
Articulate costs more because Storyline and Rise come with a small LMS and a credit allowance. iSpring prices in euros, so a US contract drifts with the exchange rate. See the full breakdowns in Articulate 360 pricing and iSpring pricing.
Is Adobe Captivate worth it?
For an instructional designer who builds software simulations and interactive courses on a desktop, yes: $480 a year is low for what Captivate does. Adobe positions it for software simulations, responsive courses, interactive video, PowerPoint-to-eLearning conversion and slide-based compliance content, and version 13 added PowerPoint import that keeps every slide element editable.
It is a weaker fit in three situations. If nobody on the team is a trained course designer, the tool will sit unused. If you need training tracked and certificates renewed, you still need an LMS, and that bill is usually bigger than the seat. And if you maintain a large Captivate Classic library, plan the migration: Adobe says the new version cannot open Classic projects yet.
Is there a cheaper alternative to Adobe Captivate for company training?
If the goal is required training that gets assigned, completed and proven, the cheaper route is an LMS with authoring built in, not a second tool. CompanyLMS drafts a course from the policy, SOP or handbook you already have, adds a quiz with a pass mark and a certificate, and assigns it by team or role. See how that works on the course authoring tool page.
Keep Captivate for a few showcase simulations if your designers love it. Captivate exports SCORM, so those packages belong in a SCORM compliant LMS, and everything routine runs in the same place. For a per-employee view of what required training costs across vendors, read compliance training software pricing.
