Compare · Medical device training software
Best LMS for small medical device companies and training records
The best LMS for a small medical device company delivers SOP and onboarding training by role, tests understanding with a quiz, keeps a dated record per employee, and warns you before a refresher lapses. If you also need document control and CAPA, you need a medical device QMS alongside it, not instead of it.
CompanyLMS publishes $7 per learner seat a month ($3.50 billed annually), so you can budget the training side before you talk to anyone.
Courses, onboarding & compliance · one platform · per learner
Medical device QMS vendors sell document control, CAPA and training as one annual contract. CompanyLMS does one job: deliver the training, test it, keep a dated record per employee and track renewals, on a published per-seat price. Choose it to add or replace the training side; choose a QMS if you need controlled documents and validated signatures.

Medical device training software vs CompanyLMS, honestly
A fair look at what each does well. Both are capable tools. Here is where they differ.
| What matters | CompanyLMS | Medical device training software |
|---|---|---|
| How you pay | $7 per learner seat a month on Business, $3.50 billed annually, 10-learner minimum | eQMS suites sell annual contracts, Qualio prints from $25,000 per year; TalentLMS publishes user bands |
| Training records | Dated completion, quiz score and certificate per employee, exported as CSV | Included in QMS training modules, usually tied to document revisions |
| Retraining and expiry | Renewal intervals with reminders before the due date | Varies by vendor and plan; ask whether it is in the base tier |
| Document control and CAPA | None. Use your QMS or document tool for the controlled procedure | Core of a medical device QMS |

The shortlist
Medical device training software and how each one prices
Two of the six publish a rate. Qualio and TalentLMS figures come from their own pricing pages; MasterControl and Greenlight Guru pages showed no dollar amount; CompanyLMS is our own product.
| Platform | Best for | Published price | What stands out | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Qualio | Life sciences teams buying document control, CAPA and training in one eQMS | Published. Annual contracts, plans start at $25,000 per year, flat platform fee | Unlimited basic users who read and train, plus a small number of edit users | Priced as a quality system, so a heavy purchase if you only need training delivery |
| MasterControl | Larger manufacturers that need a full connected QMS | Quote. No dollar amount on the pricing page we read | Training Management module tied to document control and change control | Enterprise implementation; more than a small team needs for course delivery |
| Greenlight Guru | Device startups that want design controls and QMS together | Quote. No dollar amount on the pricing page we read | Quality management, documents and training in one medtech suite | Built around device quality workflows rather than general employee onboarding |
| TalentLMS | Steady rosters of 40 to 500 people that fit inside a user band | Published. Core from $119 a month billed yearly for up to 40 users; Grow to 500 users; Pro to 1,000 | Lowest published sticker price at steady headcount | Crossing a band moves the whole plan; confirm how deactivated users count |
| Docebo | Larger companies with 250 or more learners and an L&D team | Quote. Monthly, yearly or registered active users, one-year minimum | Deep enterprise features, integrations and content marketplace | Many paid add-ons; heavy for a team without dedicated L&D |
| CompanyLMS Business | Device makers running SOP training, onboarding paths and certificate renewals at a visible price | Published. $7 per learner seat a month, $3.50 billed annually, 10-learner minimum | Role paths, quizzes, certificate expiry with reminders, compliance board and CSV export in one price | Not an eQMS: no document control, CAPA or validated e-signature package |
Pricing reflects each vendor's own pricing or help pages where they exist, and labelled third-party data where they do not. Most vendors quote privately, so treat ranges as planning anchors and confirm with each vendor.
Buying guide
Medical device LMS pricing and buying guide
What training software costs for a device maker, which training records an audit asks for, and when you need a QMS instead.
How much does an LMS for a small medical device company cost?
A standalone LMS for a medical device team costs from about $119 a month on a published band plan to custom quotes, and CompanyLMS Business is $7 per learner seat a month or $3.50 billed annually. A full eQMS with a training module starts far higher: Qualio prints plans from $25,000 per year. The two products solve different problems, which is why the prices are so far apart.
Our arithmetic on CompanyLMS published rates for three typical device company sizes. The other vendors quote or use bands, so no figure is invented for them.
| Seats | Billed annually at $3.50 | Billed monthly at $7 |
|---|---|---|
| 40 (early-stage manufacturer) | $1,680 a year | $3,360 a year |
| 80 (growing device maker with a production floor) | $3,360 a year | $6,720 a year |
| 150 (multi-site manufacturer) | $6,300 a year | $12,600 a year |
Seat counts are examples, not benchmarks. Size yours to the people who must be trained at one time, and check the full rate card on the CompanyLMS pricing page.
What training records does a medical device manufacturer have to keep?
Auditors expect proof that each person was trained for the job they do, when, on which version of the procedure, and that the training worked. ISO 13485 asks for competence, training and awareness records, and the FDA Quality Management System Regulation, which took effect in February 2026, brings ISO 13485 in by reference. Confirm the exact clauses with your regulatory lead.
In practice an audit trail for training comes down to five items:
- Who took the training, by named employee and role.
- What course, SOP or work instruction, and which revision.
- When it was completed, with a dated certificate or completion record.
- How well, through a quiz score or a sign-off that shows competence rather than attendance.
- When it expires, so retraining after a revision or an annual refresher is not left to memory.
An LMS covers all five. It does not replace your document control system.
Do you need an eQMS or is an LMS enough?
If your quality system already lives in a document tool or a QMS and you need a place to deliver training, test it and keep dated records, an LMS is enough and costs a fraction of an eQMS. If you are buying document control, CAPA, change control and supplier quality for the first time, buy the eQMS and use its training module.
- Buy a QMS first when you need controlled documents, electronic signatures, CAPA and a validation package. Qualio, MasterControl and Greenlight Guru sell these, usually as annual contracts. Qualio prints plans from $25,000 per year; we did not find a dollar amount on the MasterControl or Greenlight Guru pricing pages we read.
- Buy an LMS when the gap is delivery and proof: onboarding for new hires, role-based paths for production, quality and regulatory staff, and expiry tracking for GMP refreshers and safety certificates.
- Use both when the QMS owns the procedure and the LMS owns the training on it.
CompanyLMS is a corporate LMS. It is not a validated eQMS, so if your process requires 21 CFR Part 11 electronic signatures inside the training record, ask your QA lead first.
How should a small device company set up training in an LMS?
Start with one onboarding path per function and attach the procedures people must read and be tested on before they touch product. A workable first month looks like this:
- List roles: production operator, QA inspector, regulatory affairs, engineering, customer support.
- Build a path per role from your current SOPs, with a short quiz after each so the record shows comprehension.
- Set renewal intervals for anything that expires, such as annual GMP refreshers, ESD, cleanroom gowning and safety.
- Assign the path on the hire date and review the compliance board weekly.
- When an SOP is revised, assign the update to the affected roles and keep the completion record.
You can build in Course Studio from your own documents or upload SCORM and xAPI packages from a vendor.
Is CompanyLMS a good LMS for small medical device companies?
For a US device company of roughly 25 to a few hundred people that needs onboarding, SOP training, quizzes and certificate expiry tracked at a price you can see, yes. You buy learner seats, reassign one when someone leaves, and export completion records as CSV for an audit.
It is not the right pick if you need document control, CAPA or validated electronic signatures in one system. In that case start with a medical device QMS, and add an LMS later if its training module is too heavy for your production floor.
Why teams pick CompanyLMS
One platform for courses, onboarding, compliance and certifications
A record per person
Every completion carries the date, the quiz result and the course, and exports as CSV for an audit request.
Paths by function
Production, quality, regulatory and engineering each get a path, assigned on the hire date from your current SOPs.
Refreshers that do not slip
Annual GMP, gowning, ESD and safety training carry a renewal interval and move from current to due to overdue on their own.
Seats follow headcount
You buy learner seats and reassign one when someone leaves, so contractors and seasonal production help do not leave dead accounts.
