The shortlist
Paychex LMS alternatives and what each one charges
Seven options a US business on Paychex weighs. Five publish a figure you can read today: CompanyLMS, Coggno, TalentLMS, EasyLlama and Traliant. Paychex Learning and Paycor Learning are quoted. Paychex facts come from archived copies of paychex.com (September 2026); other vendor prices were read between 8 and 12 October 2026.
| Platform | Best for | Pricing model | What stands out | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CompanyLMS | US small and mid-sized businesses that train on their own onboarding, compliance and certification content | Published. Team $4 and Business $7 per active learner a month, or $3 and $6 billed annually. Team has a 25 learner minimum, Business 10. Enterprise $12. No implementation fee | Course authoring, role-based paths, certificates with automatic renewal reminders and a per-employee audit trail, billed only for active learners | No Paychex Marketplace listing. Learners come in by CSV import, or by SSO and SCIM on Enterprise, and completions are not written back to Paychex |
| Paychex Learning | Paychex HR Pro and PEO clients who want the bundled course catalog on the payroll login | Quoted. Per employee per month plus a flat monthly fee, or included in HR Pro and HR PEO | 300+ courses in 20+ libraries, native to Paychex Flex, nothing extra to sign into | Own content, custom courses and quizzes are Enhanced only, and no SCORM support is named |
| Coggno | Companies that want an automatic daily roster sync from Paychex Flex plus a large course catalog | Published. Prime $5 per user a month billed annually, 10 user minimum. Courses also sold one at a time from $9.95 | Documented Paychex Flex connector, 24 HRIS and payroll syncs included, upload your own SCORM, documents and quizzes | The Paychex sync is read-only and runs once a day, and completions are not written back |
| TalentLMS | Teams of 50 to 100 that want a low published band price | Published. Core $1,428 a year for 1 to 40 users, $1,908 for 41 to 70, $2,628 for 71 to 100, billed yearly | Cheapest published line here at 100 users, with a free plan for 5 users to test | Bands count unique monthly log-ins with overage, and no Paychex connector is listed |
| EasyLlama | Companies that want a full compliance course library at a per-user rate | Published. $24.95 per course per learner a year, or $59.95 Core and $89.95 Ultimate per user a year, 10 minimum | 500+ legally vetted courses, phishing simulations on Core, AI course authoring on Ultimate | A compliance library first; your own onboarding content is secondary |
| Traliant | Teams that need one to three specific compliance topics | Published. $13.95, $21.95 or $30.95 per learner a year by number of topics, Plus add-on $3.99 | Cheapest published rate here for a single topic such as harassment prevention | Priced per topic, and editing courses needs the Plus add-on |
| Paycor Learning | Companies already running payroll on Paycor, now part of Paychex | Quoted. No plan on the Paycor pricing pages prices the LMS | Native to Paycor HCM, with Marketplace connectors to other LMS platforms | A separate product from Paychex Learning, sold through Paycor |
Pricing reflects each vendor's own pricing or help pages where they exist, and labelled third-party data where they do not. Most vendors quote privately, so treat ranges as planning anchors and confirm with each vendor.
Buying guide
Paychex Learning, read from Paychex's own pages
These facts come from the Paychex LMS page and FAQ, the Paychex payroll and HR package comparison pages, the Paychex integrations page and the original Paychex Learning launch page. Paychex blocks automated readers, so we read archived copies and give each date.
Does Paychex have an LMS?
Yes. Paychex sells a learning management system called Paychex Learning, which opens from inside Paychex Flex on desktop or mobile. The current Paychex LMS page advertises "300+ courses" across "20+ libraries" in business skills, HR compliance, leadership, cybersecurity, sales and service, and workplace safety, plus course analytics, learner transcripts and learning journeys for onboarding or compliance paths.
It comes in two versions. Paychex Learning Essentials is the course library with assignment, transcripts, mobile access and a calendar for live sessions. Paychex Learning Enhanced adds what Paychex calls custom content: uploading your own material, building courses, adding videos and links, quizzes and tests, and checkpoints and surveys. Paychex first launched the LMS at the HR Technology Conference in September 2018, and the two-tier structure has been there since.
The detail most buyers miss is in the plan matrix above. On Essentials there are no quizzes and no way to upload your own training. If the goal is onboarding on your store opening procedure or certifying technicians on your equipment, Essentials does not do it.
How much does Paychex Learning cost?

Paychex does not publish a price. Its own LMS FAQ explains the model instead: the system "is offered on a subscription model and is based on the number of active users enrolled," and "businesses can expect to pay per employee, per month along with a flat monthly fee to access the online LMS." The same answer adds that "many Paychex payroll and HR packages include LMS at no additional cost, with 30-300+ courses depending on your bundle," and sends you to a Paychex representative for the number.
Which package includes what is printed on the Paychex comparison pages (archived copies, 14 September 2026). Every package there says Request Pricing rather than a dollar figure:
| Paychex package | LMS with content | Enhanced library plus custom content |
|---|---|---|
| Paychex Flex Enterprise | Included | Add-on |
| HR Pro | Included | Included |
| HR PEO | Included | Included |
| HR Partner Plus | Add-on | Add-on |
So the honest answer is: if you are on HR Pro or the PEO, the full LMS is already in your contract and the question is whether it fits your training. If you run payroll on Flex Enterprise, custom content is an extra line. On a lighter package, the LMS itself is a separate purchase priced per employee per month plus a base fee.
Because Paychex prices per employee, the useful comparison is a yearly bill at your own headcount. These are published annual rates from vendors that print one:
| Learners | CompanyLMS Team ($3) | CompanyLMS Business ($6) | Coggno Prime ($5) | TalentLMS Core | EasyLlama Core ($59.95 a year) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 25 | $900 a year | $1,800 a year | $1,500 a year | $1,428 a year | $1,499 a year |
| 50 | $1,800 a year | $3,600 a year | $3,000 a year | $1,908 a year | $2,998 a year |
| 100 | $3,600 a year | $7,200 a year | $6,000 a year | $2,628 a year | $5,995 a year |
CompanyLMS figures are per active learner billed annually, so idle accounts drop out of the count. TalentLMS bands are billed yearly and count unique monthly log-ins, and at 100 users it is the cheapest line in the table. Coggno Prime has a 10-user minimum and EasyLlama a 10-user minimum. Ask Paychex for the per-employee rate and the base fee in writing, then put it next to this table.
Paychex Learning Essentials vs Paychex Learning Enhanced
The Paychex LMS page lists ten features in a two-column matrix, and the split is clean. Read from the page source of the archived copy dated 1 September 2026:
| Feature on the Paychex matrix | Essentials | Enhanced |
|---|---|---|
| Track and view learner transcripts | Yes | Yes |
| Assign training | Yes | Yes |
| Mobile friendly | Yes | Yes |
| Calendar to schedule live trainings | Yes | Yes |
| Purchase additional training libraries | Yes | Yes |
| Upload your own content | No | Yes |
| Create custom courses | No | Yes |
| Add videos and links | No | Yes |
| Interactive quizzes and tests | No | Yes |
| Checkpoints and surveys | No | Yes |
An older Paychex landing page describes the starting point more narrowly: Essentials "features five free courses that educate employees on business basics," with up to six more libraries (business skills, HR compliance, sales and service, leadership and management, software, and workplace safety) "purchased separately for a nominal fee." The current page instead says technology packages include "dozens of courses" and HR packages "200+ courses." Which library you actually get depends on the bundle, so ask for the course list by name before you sign.
Enhanced is the version that behaves like a general LMS. Paychex describes it as adding the ability to "upload existing training materials, create new materials in the learning management system," and import video from YouTube and Vimeo.
Which LMS integrates with Paychex Flex?
Fewer than you might expect. The Paychex integrations page (archived 15 September 2026) features accounting apps such as QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, Xero and NetSuite, time tracking apps such as Connecteam, When I Work and 7shifts, and BambooHR and Employee Navigator among popular apps. It features no LMS. Paychex points developers to its API and Developer Center and partners to its Marketplace.
One vendor that documents a Paychex Flex connector in detail is Coggno. Its integration page says the sync is read-only and covers five fields: "name, work email, department, location, and start or termination dates." It runs "every 24 hours, automatically," and "Coggno never writes back to Paychex." Completions stay in the LMS. Coggno Prime is $5 per user a month billed annually with a 10-user minimum, and the Paychex sync is included.
| Option | How employees get in | Completions back in Paychex |
|---|---|---|
| Paychex Learning | Native, the Paychex Flex employee record | Native |
| Coggno | Daily read-only sync of 5 fields from Paychex Flex | No |
| CompanyLMS | CSV import on every plan, SSO and SCIM on Enterprise | No, export completions to CSV |
| Other LMS vendors | Usually a CSV export from Paychex reports or a custom API build | Depends on the build |
One more thing changed in 2025. Paychex now owns Paycor, which has its own Learning Management module and its own set of LMS connectors. If your company runs Paycor rather than Paychex Flex, our Paycor LMS alternatives page covers that product.
Paychex harassment training and compliance courses
Compliance is the strongest part of the Paychex library. Its HR compliance courses "address required training requirements including harassment prevention, HIPAA, workplace discrimination, and more," and the customer quote Paychex runs on its LMS page is about exactly that: a California employer that needed mandatory sexual harassment training and found it in the Paychex catalog.
California is the usual trigger. Employers with five or more employees must give supervisors two hours of sexual harassment prevention training and other employees one hour, every two years. New York, Illinois, Connecticut, Delaware and Maine have their own rules. A catalog course covers the content. What you still have to own is the record: who was assigned, who finished, and when each person is due again.
That is where a dedicated tool earns its place. CompanyLMS marks any course as a certification with an expiry date, reminds people before it lapses, and keeps a per-employee audit trail you can export for an inspector, an insurer or a lawsuit. If you would rather buy the harassment content itself from a specialist, our EasyLlama vs Traliant pricing breakdown covers the two most common catalogs.
On formats, the Paychex FAQ lists "videos, PDFs, quizzes, and surveys" and says you can import courses from external platforms. It does not name SCORM, xAPI or AICC anywhere on the page. If you plan to buy SCORM courses from a third party, get SCORM playback and completion reporting confirmed in writing.
Paychex training for employees on your own procedures

Paychex runs the paperwork side of hiring well: payroll, onboarding forms, benefits enrollment. The gap is everything a new hire has to learn that only your business can teach, and everything you later need to prove they learned. The opening checklist at the front desk, the lockout steps on the second line, the client intake process, the product training for a new sales rep.
In CompanyLMS a manager builds that course in minutes from a template, a video or a PDF, adds a quiz, groups courses into an onboarding path for a role, and assigns it on the first day. Completions, scores and certificate expiry dates sit on one record per employee and export to CSV. Billing counts only learners who were active that month, at $4 on Team or $7 on Business, or $3 and $6 billed annually, so seasonal staff who finish training and go quiet stop costing anything.
You can try it right now in the course studio on this page, with no sales call and no implementation project.
How to choose an LMS for a Paychex company
Use Paychex Learning if you are on HR Pro or the Paychex PEO, your training is mostly the ready-made compliance and soft-skills catalog, and you want it on the same login and the same invoice as payroll. It is already paid for.
Ask for Enhanced if you like the Paychex catalog but also need to upload your own procedures and quiz people on them. Get the add-on price in writing, because on Flex Enterprise and HR Partner Plus it is a separate line.
Add a standalone LMS if your training is mostly your own content, you need certifications with expiry dates and reminders, or you want a published price you can budget without a sales cycle. That is the job CompanyLMS is built for, and it works next to Paychex Flex through a CSV import, with nothing to install on the payroll side.
Pick a connector-first vendor such as Coggno if an automatic daily roster sync from Paychex Flex matters more to you than course building.
