ADP Learning Management vs TalentLMS: Pricing and What You Get

TalentLMS publishes its whole card and starts at $119 a month. ADP publishes nothing: every Marketplace listing reads Login to see prices. What that difference costs you.

Last updated September 2026. The ADP Marketplace listings and the TalentLMS pricing page were both read first-hand on 4 September 2026, not taken from review sites.

TalentLMS publishes its whole rate card and starts at $119 a month for up to 40 users. ADP Learning Management publishes nothing at all: every ADP Marketplace listing reads "Login to see prices", so you cannot price it until you are already an ADP customer. The real decision is not which is cheaper, because you can only see one of the two numbers. It is whether you want training bundled into your payroll contract or bought and priced on its own.

If you are comparing these two, you are almost certainly running ADP Workforce Now already, someone has asked whether the learning module is enough, and you want to know what you would be giving up or gaining by buying a real LMS instead. Here is what each one actually is.

The pricing difference, side by side

This is the cleanest contrast in the comparison, and it is worth seeing before anything else.

Contract Rides on your ADP payroll agreement Standalone, monthly or annual

The last row is the one finance cares about and nobody thinks about at demo time. A learning module attached to a payroll contract is easy to add mid-term and awkward to remove mid-term. If it turns out not to fit, you are often carrying it until the payroll renewal comes around.

What ADP Learning Management actually includes

It is a genuine LMS, not a course player, and it is worth being fair about that. ADP lists six features on the Essential Learning page: pre-packaged courses, custom course content, enrollment and tracking, mobile learning, and two premium options that carry an additional fee. The module ships 41 pre-packaged courses covering personal development and compliance topics, ten of which are available in Spanish, and it accepts your own uploads in SCORM, xAPI and MP4.

That last capability matters more than most comparison pages admit. If you already own a SCORM library, it will run inside ADP. You are not forced to rebuild anything.

Where it thins out is everything past the library. Anything beyond those 41 titles comes from ADP Premium Learning Content, a separate Marketplace listing sold at an additional fee, which ADP describes as thousands of courses from over 125 providers. And the published feature list covers completion tracking and custom reports but says nothing about certification expiry dates or automatic re-assignment of recurring training. If annual refreshers are the reason you are shopping, ask about that behavior explicitly rather than assuming completion tracking covers it.

One useful tell about how ADP prices this: the only dollar figures it publishes anywhere near the learning product are professional services. Content Consulting is a $1,000 flat fee for roughly four hours, Feature Optimization is another $1,000 flat fee, and a yearly support subscription runs $300 a month for sixteen hours spread across twelve months. The consulting is priced in public. The software is not.

What TalentLMS gives you that the module does not

Three things, and only one of them is about features.

The first is a number you can act on. Core is $119 a month for 1 to 40 users, Grow $229 for up to 70, and Pro $449 for up to 100, with bands continuing upward to 1,000. Pricing is based on the monthly number of users who log in to your portal, which is a meaningful distinction for a company where compliance training runs in two bursts a year rather than continuously. The full breakdown is on our TalentLMS pricing page.

The second is that you can try it. There is a free plan with no credit card, so the evaluation is a Tuesday afternoon rather than a procurement cycle. You cannot evaluate ADP Essential Learning without already being an ADP customer, which means the module gets adopted because it is there rather than because it won a comparison.

The third is that it is not tied to payroll. If you change payroll providers in two years, your training history, your course library and your completion records do not move with the contract. For a compliance program where the records are the whole point, that independence is worth something real.

The honest counterweight is that TalentLMS includes no content. The 41 ADP courses are worth money, and if that starter library covers most of what you assign, the bundling argument is stronger than it looks on a feature grid.

The ADP connector, and what it actually syncs

You do not have to choose between ADP payroll and a separate LMS. TalentLMS publishes a connector on the ADP Marketplace, and the details of how it behaves are more useful than the fact that it exists.

The sync is one way, from ADP into TalentLMS, on a scheduled daily run. It reads eleven named fields: First Name, Last Name, Work Email, Employment Status, Job Title, Job Function, Job Classes, Business Departments, Business Locations, Business Units and Management Position Indicator. It can filter on most of those and generate groups automatically, and it supports single sign-on for both practitioners and employees.

Two consequences follow. Because Business Locations and Job Title come across, you can auto-assign state-specific harassment training to the right people without maintaining a spreadsheet, which is the single most common reason these integrations get bought. But because the sync is nightly rather than real time, a new hire who starts on Monday morning will not appear in TalentLMS until Tuesday unless somebody adds them by hand. If your onboarding promise is day-one training, decide that deliberately. Absorb's ADP connector advertises near real time updates and is the better fit if same-day matters, though Absorb publishes no pricing at all.

Which one you should actually buy

Keep ADP Essential Learning if your training is light, the 41 included courses cover most of what you assign, and nobody has ever asked you to produce an audit trail. The module needs no connector, no second contract and no new login for staff, and those are real advantages that a feature comparison undervalues.

Buy a standalone LMS when one of three things is true: you need renewal and expiry logic rather than completion percentages, you need content the 41 titles do not cover and are about to pay for the Premium add-on anyway, or you want to know what your learning platform costs without logging in to find out. Our full breakdown of the options sits on the ADP LMS alternatives page, and if compliance evidence is the trigger, the compliance training software guide covers what that evidence has to look like.

Whichever way you go, the content problem is usually smaller than it feels. Most of what a compliance course needs to test is already sitting in a policy document somebody wrote two years ago, and you can turn that PDF straight into quiz questions instead of writing an assessment from scratch. Then upload the result as SCORM, or build it directly in whichever platform you land on.
